Charges & Deductions Wizard

What are charges and deductions?

When you import goods, the price you paid may need to be adjusted before calculating how much duty you owe. Some costs must be ADDED (charges) and others SUBTRACTED (deductions) to determine the correct amount.

Why is this important?

  • You must review charges and deductions for every shipment
  • Even if you have none, you need to confirm this
  • Incorrect values may result in paying too much or too little duty

How does this wizard work?

  1. Header Level: Costs that apply to your entire shipment (distributed automatically across all items)
  2. Record Level: Costs that apply to specific items only
  3. Important: Don't double-count! If you enter something at header level, don't enter it again at record level

Note about statistical information:

  • If you are a private importer (importing for personal use), reporting statistical information is optional
  • If you are a commercial importer, customs broker, or freight forwarder, reporting statistical information is mandatory

Note: All charge and deduction distributions follow the rules in BCD Field Definitions and Completions Appendix B - Aggregation & Calculation of Values.
